Anthony joined us a short seven months ago, but has been very consistent showing up 5x/week and has seen great changes in his body composition and performance in the gym already. He’s lost about 30 pounds, has gotten his first pull-up ever (and many more after that), and continuously gets stronger (recently deadlifting 365# for 3 reps!) These changes don’t happen with 1 hour of working out only; Anthony came in ready for a change in both his workout routine and his nutrition. It’s this dedication to getting better in and out of the gym that we want to recognize. The drive to get better even if his coaches aren’t watching every single move. The motivation to be the best version of himself for his wife and three kids. The transfer of physical performance to the baseball field in the league he plays in. And as far as he’s come in these past seven months, we’re even more excited to see what he does with the next seven and beyond. Congratulations on being our Member of the Month, Anthony!
When did you start CF?
First group class was January 22, 2018
What are your favorite numbers and why?
3 – number of kids, 10 – baseball jersey number, 12 – anniversary date and daughters birthday
What CF movements do you like?
Cleans, box jump overs, deadlifts, pull-ups, dumbbell snatch
What CF movements do you dislike?
Lunges, rope climbs, kettlebell swings
What sports or fitness things did you do before CF?
I tried to convince myself that I was a runner. I didn’t really take to it.
How did you find CF? What was your first workout?
I drove by the box multiple times (as I live around the corner) before I got up the nerve to check it out. First workout was 4 rounds for time: 21 calorie row 15 toes to bar 7 power clean & jerk
What’s your favorite thing about CF?
The variety of workouts from day to day is super fun and makes it easy to just show up and get my work in.
What are your hobbies?
I play in a men’s baseball league in the summertime.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I met my wife as a sophomore in high school and we have been together for 25 years (as of June ‘18)
What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?
I feel like I am still setting a lot of benchmarks and haven’t accomplished many PR’s yet. But, my first pull-up, and then completing a workout with the prescribed number of pull-ups shortly thereafter was exciting.
What’s on your CF bucket list?
Compete in the Open in 2019.
What’s on your general bucket list?
Travel more, and experience other parts of the world with my family.
What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) CrossFitters?
There is a quote that says “Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.” I think that is so appropriate for those starting out. If you focus on what you can do today, set realistic goals, and trust your coaches, the results will come.
***Kanna members: Anthony’s workout TBD!***
How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the mission of CrossFit Kanna of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
