February 2026 Member of the Month: Alycia Chima

When Alycia walked through Kanna’s doors in September 2024, she’ll be the first to tell you she was overwhelmed and anxious. But within just one month, she and her husband Anthony were already diving headfirst into everything Kanna had to offer. From showing up at our Kanna for All nonprofit fundraiser (and coming home with a haul of prizes!) to gearing up in themed costumes for the Intramural CrossFit Open, Alycia didn’t just dip her toes in, she jumped in.

Since then, Alycia has gone from struggling with lunges and box jumps to owning them in workouts, and her confidence has grown just as much as her strength. As a quality manufacturing lead for a cosmetics company, Alycia knows what it means to hold things to a high standard and she brings that same drive to the gym. Whether she’s swinging a kettlebell, pulling a heavy deadlift, or just soaking in the community she’s come to love, Alycia embodies what Kanna is all about.

We sat down with Alycia to learn more about her fitness journey, her six cats, her Golden Girls obsession, and why she thinks the best advice for new members is simple: just embrace it.

What are your favorite numbers and why?

10 – wedding anniversary, 2308 home address when I was a kid and Chimas bday

What movements do you like?

Kettlebell swings, bench press, deadlift

What movements do you dislike?

Wall balls, bike

What sports or fitness things did you do before Kanna?

Volleyball, running

How did you find Kanna? How did you feel when you first walked in?

Chima heard about kanna from friends at well crafted and wanted us to join together. Overwhelmed and anxious

What’s your “why” for working out? 

To get stronger and stay mobile for as long as possible

What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?

How supportive and kind all the coaches and other members are to one and other

What are your hobbies?

Reading, watching movies, traveling, collecting pressed Pennies

What’s something most people don’t know about you or a fun fact?

I’m a huge fan of the golden girls and went to the golden-con festival in Chicago a few years ago. We have six cats!!

What PRs or accomplishments (fitness-related) are you most proud of?

Lunges and box jumps! I couldn’t even do these at all. Now I’m more confident in these movements and able to do them in workouts

Pull ups

Travel to Alaska, see a great white shark

What advice do you have for people new to Kanna?

Ask lots of questions and embrace the whole experience

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
