June 2025 Member of the Month: Megan McDonnell

Since joining in April 2023, Megan (“Flo”) jumped right in at Kanna Fitness — soaking up knowledge, putting in the work, and becoming a big part of our community. From volunteering as a judge at competitions to stepping onto the competition floor herself, it’s been awesome to watch her growth and confidence take off.

Megan’s recent clean and jerk PR and progression from hanging on a bar to super smooth toes-to-bar are just the latest signs of how far she has come. Megan truly embodies our core values: Learn, Work Hard, and Have Fun. For all of those reasons and more, Megan McDonnell is our June Member of the Month – Congratulations!

Name

Megan Flo McDonnell

Occupation

Market Research – Health & Lifescience Account Director

When did you start at Kanna?

April 2023

What are your favorite numbers and why?

5, 6, 15 not really sure 🤣 I’ve just always chose them

What movements do you like?

So many! DL, box jump, KB swing, T2anything, weighted step up, HPC, KB carry, love a barbell complex, sit ups/slam balls, weighted lunges, jump rope

What movements do you dislike?

Bear crawl, thrusters, running

What sports or fitness things did you do before Kanna?

I grew up swimming year around, eventually cheerleading/dance in high school. Would pop into a yoga/pilates/dance class every now and then throughout my life.

How did you find Kanna? How did you feel when you first walked in?

I lived close by and a friend suggested Kanna to me when I mentioned I was looking to start working out again. The idea of working out with barbells was equally exciting and intimidating. I was nervous when I walked in but I met with Steph. She was incredibly friendly, easy to talk to, and comforted my nerves 🤣 I met with Marla for base camp and she was incredibly helpful walking me through all the movements. Marla’s the forever hype woman that tells me the heavier weight is better.

What’s your “why” for working out?

I work out for myself first so that I can show up in other areas of my life 110% Dedicating time each week to show up for myself helps me be the best version of myself in life – immeasurable.

What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?

The Kanna community and atmosphere is special. It’s a community you stumble upon, not realizing it’s something you sincerely need in your life. For me, coaches and members have always been so warm, friendly, approachable but also gather together to celebrate each other as individuals and our personal accomplishments. At every class, I hear people compliment each other and give shout outs. It’s really a beautiful thing to witness.

What are your hobbies?

Keeping up with my daughter 😁Gardening, reading, occasionally painting, being a sun worshipper when possible, I started a podcast recently. And naps, I love naps.

What’s something most people don’t know about you or a fun fact?

I am good at sudoku puzzles, they’re addicting.

What PRs or accomplishments (fitness-related) are you most proud of?

T2B, DL, pull ups, clean&jerk, API 🫣

What’s on your fitness bucket list?

Getting to purple level consistently, DU, pull ups, push ups

What’s on your general bucket list?

Enjoying life, saying yes to as many opportunities as possible (realistically). Would love to have a house with a big yard so I can have all the flowers I could possibly want. I want to see Italy and a rainforest in Brazil. Rollerblading skills would be cool too.

What advice do you have for people new to Kanna?

The hardest part is walking through the door. Once you’re here, it’s easy to stay. You get to meet new faces, be cheered on, learn form/techniques, and surprise yourself with how much progress you make.

Anything else you’d like to mention?

🙂

Kanna members: The MOTM custom workout date is TBD

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
