August Member of the Month: Heather G.

Name

Heather Greenleaf

Occupation

Project Manager for Imagine Exhibitions

When did you start CF?

2 1/2 years ago

What are your favorite numbers and why?

11 – Trip’s and Alice’s basketball number, 15 – my birthdate

What CF movements do you like?

Any and all core movements (situps, Russian twists, supermans, hollow holds, etc), speed skaters, box jumps, jump rope, deadlifts, dumbbell snatches, kettlebell swings

What CF movements do you dislike?

Push press, pull ups, push ups, burpees

What sports or fitness things did you do before CF?

Soccer, ballet, waterskiing, horseback riding, running

How did you find CF? What was your first workout?

Stew wanted to join and I was looking for something less monotonous than running. I liked the idea of being able to do something together, so I joined him at base camp. It was the first time I’d done wall balls — ever — and about 6 in I remember thinking, “Maybe its enough to just hang out together at home!” But I stuck with it and am so happy that I did!

What’s your favorite thing about CF?

I have a fair amount of self-doubt about my athletic abilities, and Kanna gives me amazing opportunities to just get over myself and try new things. When the Kanna coaches have confidence in me, it helps me find confidence within myself.

What are your hobbies?

Reading, snorkeling, sailing, trying new restaurants, jigsaw puzzles

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Yeah, right. Nice try. 😉

What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?

30″ box jump, handstand hold on the wall

What’s on your CF bucket list?

1 pull up. 1 push up. Double unders.

What’s on your general bucket list?

More sailing and travel adventures

What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) CrossFitters?

Don’t be afraid to try. For me, its easy to walk away if I think, “Oh, I cant do that,” but likely I can do it, and likely others can also do it if they are willing to try.  I want new CrossFitters (especially my kids) to try to achieve new goals.

Anything else you’d like to mention?

Thanks for everything, Kanna! Its wonderful to have such skilled and enthusiastic coaches who work hard to build a great welcoming community!

***Kanna members: Heather’s custom workout will be August 28th!***

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
