As you will read below, Amber had known about us for awhile, but finally joined in April 2022. Since then, she has shown consistency in showing up to classes, (over 275 so far!), has worked on specific goals with Coach Justin (such as a new personal record front squat), and has put herself out there in local competitions. A class nomad, she’s been known to pop into the 6:45a, 8:30a, 9:45a, 12p, 4:45a, and 6p classes, but it seems like the 5:30a might be off-limits. Congratulations, Amber!

What are your favorite numbers and why?
12, 8 (kids ages)
What movements do you like?
Pull-ups, rope climbs, wall walks and really any gymnastics/body weight movements
What movements do you dislike?
Thrusters… I’m not a big fan of burpees either.
What sports or fitness things did you do before Kanna?
A variety of HIIT classes, boxing classes, barre. I was a runner and a swimmer way back in school.
How did you find Kanna? What was your first workout?
I’ve known about Kanna for quite a while… a few of my mom-friends are longtime members. I did a free-trial in February of 22, I remember it having hanging knee/leg raises. My first class after finishing ‘base camp’ was a partner sandbag workout.
What’s your “why” for working out?
Self care… It’s a great mood/energy booster
What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?
The programming and the community. The Level Method program is very approachable and goal oriented and the workouts vary. And we just have fun!
What are your hobbies?
We are a camping family so always looking for a good outdoor adventure… otherwise I love a good book and am a total plant lady

What PRs or accomplishments (fitness-related) are you most proud of?
I very recently started picking up double-unders! It’s a movement I’ve worked on for over a year… after months or whipping myself with the jump rope and mumbling profanities under my breath it feels good to have some! I recently had some PRs on front squat and power cleans thanks to some additional training with Coach Justin… I’m pretty excited about those too.

More travel with my family… I’d love to see the Northern lights
What advice do you have for people new to Kanna?
Don’t overthink it… When I started I would check the workouts and dodged barbell workouts as much as possible because I didn’t think they catered to my strengths. Show up and do what you can and you might surprise yourself.

Very grateful to have found this community… It feels good to be hitting fitness goals that I didn’t even know I had at 41 years old. Thanks Kanna!

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
