5/2019

What CF movements do you dislike?
Push ups, pull ups, thrusters, bike, running

What sports or fitness things did you do before CF?
Treadmill and some home weights, previously went to regular gyms on and off. Nothing consistent.

How did you find CF? What was your first workout?
Found CrossFit online…had to look up my first workout it was jump rope and running and I remember I could barely do 2 consecutive jump ropes! I remember thinking holy hell, but then couldn’t wait to go back!

What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
I like not having to think about what I’m going to do for a workout. I just go and someone does all of the thinking for me! I also like the high intensity workout in a short period of time. But most of all the people…the group classes, the peer support and the support of the coaches.

What are your hobbies?
I love traveling and live for my next vacation! And CrossFit of course

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’ve been a mom for 23 years! Most people know I have an 8yr old daughter Shannon but many probably don’t know that I have a 23yr old son Matt. I was a single mom for 11yrs and a crazy hockey mom for 15yrs.

What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?
Participating in the open last year was personally my greatest accomplishment. I had only been at Kanna for about 5 months and was apprehensive at first but the atmosphere was awesome and never once did I feel like I was less than anyone else. It was a great feeling doing the workouts regardless of whether or not I finished!

What’s on your CF bucket list?
One strict pull up someday!

What’s on your general bucket list?
My bucket list is mostly traveling destinations. Greece, Ireland, Lake Tahoe, Grand Canyon, Bora Bora just to name a few.

What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) CrossFitters?
I would say you can do it! My biggest apprehension about CrossFit was that I wouldn’t be able to do it. I had visions of muscle heads flipping giant tires in my head. I was terrified just going in for our initial consultation but immediately felt at ease after talking with Chris. CrossFit can be for everyone!

Anything else you’d like to mention?
Kanna has been awesome for my body and mind and is another thing that has strengthened Sean and I’s relationship. We love competing but also encouraging each other during workouts.

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
