February Members of the Month – Tom and Jamie G.

Congratulations to Tom and Jamie G. for being our February Members of the Month. While we usually choose just one person each month to highlight, we started featuring couples last February and wanted to continue that tradition. Read on for more info about our Members of the Month!

When did you start at Kanna?

T: 10/21

J: July 2021

What are your favorite numbers and why?

T: 14, my birthday

J: 18 – my birthday, my brother’s birthday, a best friend’s bday, two of my daughter’s bday

What movements do you like?

T: Rowing, back squats, pull ups, leg raises

J: Kettlebell, front squat, jump rope

What movements do you dislike?

T: Kettlebell snatch, burpees

J: Bodybuilders, pushups

What sports or fitness things did you do before Kanna?

T: Biking, hiking, volleyball, softball, home calisthenics workouts

J: Volleyball, occasional running and biking, hiking

How did you find Kanna? What was your first workout?

T: Jamie, can’t remember

J: Was looking for personal training (aka accountability) to get working out regularly after I had my last pregnancy.

What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?

T: The community

J: So many things. Openness and welcoming to everyone and all abilities. The best part is that the only thing I have to do is find a time that works and show up—the rest is figured out. I typically don’t look at the workout ahead of time, it’s a surprise.

What are your hobbies?

T: Music, watching and playing sports, hiking, camping, video games, home projects, board games, cooking

J: Camping, hiking, keeping three kids alive

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

T: I never stop talking so I don’t really think there’s anything

J: I’ve bungee jumped off a bridge

What PRs or accomplishments (fitness-related) are you most proud of?

T: None in particular

J: My core and back are strong enough now that I don’t have deskwork-related headaches and pains (for the most part!).

What’s on your fitness bucket list?

T: Being healthy and able to walk

J: Push up, pull up would be nice

What’s on your general bucket list?

T: Visit more national parks out west

J: To travel in Europe (Italy sounds nice!), travel to New Zealand

What advice do you have for people new to Kanna?

T: It gets easier!

J: It gets easier after the first few weeks!

Anything else you’d like to mention?

J: So happy to have Kanna, as it’s really worked for me. I’ve never been this consistent at working out since high school (cross country, track, dance team).

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
