It’s Only Important if You Make it Important

It’s 10pm on Saturday night and I’m writing a blog post after watching one of the documentary episodes from The Last Dance. Why? Why don’t I just go get ready for bed and write something tomorrow? Why worry about getting something out today instead of waiting 8 or 10 hours? The reason is because I entered a challenge and it’s important to me to finish it.

The challenge issued by a business group that I’m in is to write for 30 days straight. Whatever we write about is up to us, but it has to be 30 days.

Now, usually I’m actually a Rebel according to Gretchen Rubin’s Four Tendencies, but for some reason I’m making this challenge important enough to stay up on a Saturday night.

The fact is that because I made it important in my head, I find the time to make it happen. Granted, I should have done it earlier today, but that’s besides the point. The point is that if something is important to you, you find the time.

I once heard, “show me a person’s calendar and their checkbook and I’ll know everything there is to that person” and I agree.

What do you find yourself spending money on? What do you find yourself spending time on? Those are the things that are important to you. Actions speak louder than words, so what actions are you taking to show what’s important to you?
