8th Grade ELA Teacher
When did you start at Kanna?
Day 1. Or before that if that’s even possible.
What are your favorite numbers and why?
1 because Leila, our 1st child, was born in January. 4 because Lam and I were married in April. 9 because our son, Eli, was born on September 9th.
What movements do you like?
I LOVE toes through rings. I feel like a kid on a playground when doing them. I also like pull-ups, KB swings and weighted sit-ups. When it comes to the barbell, I like cleans.
What movements do you dislike?
I dislike wallballs. That is all. No other dislikes here.
What sports or fitness things did you do before Kanna?
I did Crossfit for 6 years before coming to Kanna. Before that, I did a lot of DVD workouts in my basement like P90X and Insanity. I liked that I didn’t have to think about what to do for those workouts which is also what attracted me to Crossfit.
How did you find Kanna? What was your first workout?
I “found” Kanna years before it existed when I met Chris at the first Crossfit gym I went to. He was coaching there at the time and we eventually became friends. Chris, Ditty, Lam and a number of other friends and family switched to another gym and then followed Chris when he decided to open Kanna. I don’t know what my first workout at Kanna was but my Crossfit workout was 150 Wallballs for time. It sucked and yet I still went back the next day.
What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?
My favorite thing about Kanna is our community. We are not a bunch of meatheads just trying to lift heavy. Though lifting heavy is fun! We are a group of friends, parents, and even grandparents who want to be healthy and fit for life. I like going to Kanna because I get to workout with friends but, more importantly, I get to workout with Lam.
What are your hobbies?
When I’m not working out or teaching, I like to do puzzles, cook/bake with my kiddos, and travel. I also love our weekly family movie night (is that even a hobby?). It’s my favorite day of the week.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know I have been sky diving twice, have one tattoo and used to have my tongue pierced. I also lived in Israel when I was a senior in high school and crashed an ATV in Egypt.
What PRs or accomplishments (fitness-related) are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the first Bar Muscle Up I got during the 2019 Open. I had 2 seconds left and totally shocked myself when I pushed out at the top of the bar. I am also proud of my past push-up and pull-up PRs. After much hard work on both, I was once able to do 30 strict pushups and 10 strict pull-ups.
What’s on your fitness bucket list?
My fitness bucket list has shifted tremendously since re-injurying my back. These days I just want to be consistent in the gym and feeling good.
What’s on your general bucket list?
I want to see a lava-flowing, active volcano in real life. I have hiked two active volcanoes and neither were flowing. Very disappointed.
What advice do you have for people new to Kanna?
Be patient. Be consistent. Ask Questions. Have fun.
Anything else you’d like to mention?
I like 12 Days of Christmas style WODs. Just sayin.
***Kanna members: Becca’s custom workout is going to be on January 28th!***
How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
