When did you start Kanna?
What are your favorite numbers and why?
25 – birthday and 4 – members of my family
What CF movements do you like?
DEADLIFT DAY, the last 100m of a run, singleunders, push jerks
What CF movements do you dislike?
anything on the rig, burpees, and bear crawls
What sports or fitness things did you do before CF?
Growing up, I always sought out being a part of a team/community, so I bounced around between basketball, flag football, cheerleading, dance teams, etc. When I graduated college and sports weren’t easily accessible, I had a hard time finding movement that I would stick with so I kept trying new things. I ran a marathon with a lifelong friend when we were 26, I did body-pump for a little bit, and I’d lift a little here and there, but Kanna has been the most consistent form of exercise I’ve done in a very long time.
How did you find Kanna? What was your first workout?
I found Kanna because my mother forced me to go:) She knew that it would be beneficial for my gymnastics, but I was too stubborn at the time to realize it. In March 2021, my dad passed away. I knew I needed to find an outlet to pull me out of the combination of pandemic stress and grief and I wasn’t motivated to start regular movement on my own. Katie and Sara were regularly posting about Kanna and the community and I knew I had to give it a shot. My first workout was dumbbell presses and a 200m run. It felt like the longest run of my life.
What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?
So many things. I look forward to that hour where I can tune out the world, move and push myself, answer a silly question of the day, and chat with other members. The coaches make you feel confident to push yourself, modify when necessary, and make class fun. I am so glad I am able to share Kanna with my daughters so they grow up knowing that strength is beautiful and the way you feel is 100% more important than how you look..
What are your hobbies?
Traveling, board games, finding new playgrounds with my family
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I was a mummer when I was a kid
What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?
Consistently showing up and deadlifting 300 pounds
What’s on your CF bucket list?
Dubs, a pull-up, handstands
What’s on your general bucket list?
Visiting all 50 states (10 left!), walking around as many new cities as possible, & being a good parent and partner
What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) CrossFitters?
Everyone is glad you are here!
Anything else you’d like to mention?
I’m super grateful for this space and the opportunity to feel more rooted in the Ambler community.
***Kanna members: Jessy’s custom workout will be June 7th***
How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
