May 2024 Member of the Month: Jamie Doyle

Jamie joined Kanna in July 2021, and since then has not only shown consistency in showing up to classes, but also getting involved with other Kanna offerings such as Meal Prep, the Intramural Open, etc. In class, she embodies our values of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. For all of those reasons and more, Jamie Doyle is our May Member of the Month – Congratulations!

When did you start at Kanna?

July 2021

What are your favorite numbers and why?

63 – I remember my grandmother was that age when I decided it would be my favorite number.

What movements do you like?

Rowing, deadlifts, push press

What movements do you dislike?

Squats and push ups

What sports or fitness things did you do before Kanna?

Yoga, Pilates, hot yoga, traditional gym… I’ll try pretty much anything!

How did you find Kanna? How did you feel when you first walked in?

I was looking for a smaller local gym and the class schedule and movements seemed interesting to try. It felt very welcoming and as if people already knew me.

What’s your “why” for working out? 

I want to maintain my mobility, and counteract the effects of having a desk job.

What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?

The people! The coaches and other members are always supportive and create a community-driven environment.

What are your hobbies?

I like to travel, spend time with family and friends, go to concerts and find local trails to walk with my dog! Also playing pickleball very badly

What’s something most people don’t know about you or a fun fact?

I took ballet from 3 years old through getting a dance minor in college!

What PRs or accomplishments (fitness-related) are you most proud of?

My front squat weight is heavier than what I used to deadlift

What’s on your fitness bucket list?

Continuing to improve my pushups

What’s on your general bucket list?

Live the most fun and fulfilling life possible

What advice do you have for people new to Kanna?

Don’t overthink it and just come! All workouts are scalable for all fitness levels.

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
