May Member Of The Month: Laura S.

Name
Laura Snyder

Occupation
Graphic Designer

When did you start CF?
February 2020

What are your favorite numbers and why?
3, 6, 9, etc. I like multiples of 3’s

What CF movements do you like?
Power Clean, dumbbell snatch, push press, dead lift

What CF movements do you dislike?
burpees, pushups, wall balls, thrusters

What sports or fitness things did you do before CF?
I’ve been a runner for years, belonged to classic globo gyms and I’ve been rowing for about 5 years.

How did you find CF? What was your first workout?
I have a few friends who do it and I was always fascinated by the CrossFit Games so I googled CrossFit gyms close to me and found Kanna. I followed along on social media for about a year before I found the courage to come in. My first CF workout was actually several years ago. It was called a Wine and WOD and it was at my friend’s CrossFit gym – we had the wine after not before!

What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
I love the length, efficiency and variations on the workouts. I also really like the “team” community atmosphere and that you have the option to be as competitive as you want or just come in for a great workout.

What are your hobbies?
Amateur photographer, drawing/painting/crafts, gardening, rowing, avid reader, concert goer (when they were still happening) and I like puzzles…the jigsaw kind and the crossword kind

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’ve always had some sort of side hustle going in addition to working full time. It is typically freelance design projects but over the past year, I became a dog walker (and sometimes cat sitter) I’m a huge animal lover.

What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m proud overall for sticking with crossfit, even on the days where my motivation was low or I felt like I just wasn’t good at it. I’ve proven to myself that consistency, above all, is what makes all the difference and after a year of sticking with it I’m seeing personal improvements in strength and fitness in general. I was also proud of participating in my first CF Open. I was really nervous about it but Kanna made it fun with the addition of a friendly inhouse team competition and that also gave me the opportunity to get to know other members I hadn’t really talked to or worked out with before.

What’s on your CF bucket list?
For this year: strict pullups, double unders, overhead squat

What’s on your general bucket list?
Travel-see as many places as possible and I’ve been toying with the idea of starting my own design business and maybe that’s just a simple little Etsy shop or something (another side hustle). There is more to this list but I’ll leave it there for now

What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) CrossFitters?
Nothing exceptional happens if you stay within your comfort zone. As scary and intimidating as it might be, just show up and keep showing up and that is something I try to apply to everything in life.

Anything else you’d like to mention?
Thank you Kanna! You’re the best!

***Kanna members: Laura’s custom workout will be TBD (obviously)***

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
