Alice originally came to Kanna Fitness because she was “dragged” by her parents who were working out in our adult classes. Soon though, she started working out in our Teens program and then graduated to our adult classes. Now she is crushing workouts alongside her parents and Bibi (grandmother) and even doing internal and external fitness competitions. Seeing her growth in the gym has been amazing, so we are ecstatic to recognize her as our September Member of the Month!

How did you find Kanna? How did you feel when you first walked in?
My parents were doing Kanna classes for a while and Trip and I would get dragged along. When Kanna started doing teens classes Trip and I joined. At first I was a little intimidated because there were all of these adults that were so much stronger than me and have all of these different skills. The kids class helped me understand that you can’t just jump into Crossfit right away, you have to learn the basics first.
What’s your “why” for working out?
Two years ago I was really struggling with my looks and so I started to control my diet and ate a lot less. But when I went to Kanna for teens classes, I noticed that I wasn’t able to perform the way I normally could, so I knew that if I wanted to get better at this sport, I had to start eating more, especially if I wanted to get strong. So I did and I got better and I became really happy and confident. Now I love being stronger than all of my friends.
What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?
My favorite thing about Kanna is the community. Everyone is really nice and I always have great conversations with people before and after workouts.
What are your hobbies?
Spending time with friends and family, shopping, and sleeping.
What’s something most people don’t know about you or a fun fact?
I love Gilmore Girls.
What PRs or accomplishments (fitness-related) are you most proud of?
Clean and jerking 100lbs, hang cleaning 125lb two times. I have also been able to string some toes to bar together.
What’s on your fitness bucket list?
I want to achieve pistols, and get better at double unders, handstand walking, and handstand pushups.
What’s on your general bucket list?
I want to travel to Italy and Greece.
What advice do you have for people new to Kanna?
It might take a long (and frustrating) time to be able to lift bigger weights and get skills but when you do get there, it’s worth it.
Kanna members: The MOTM custom workout date is TBD
How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
