Nope. Really! There is a common misconception that functional fitness is for elite athletes. The truth is that it is for everyone. You can start the journey where you are today and, if you continue to follow our program, it’s likely that you will get in to the best physical, mental, and emotional shape of your life.
Our community is comprised of former athletes, working professionals, people that had never stepped foot into a gym and people with physical ailments. Our program is designed in such a way that it will get results for any committed individual. The biggest thing getting in the way of someone succeeding is their ego, not their physical preparation.
But don’t take our word for it. Hear it straight from our members’ mouths!
No, unlike bodybuilders, who train in a more isolated, specific way, we train using functional movements. That is, movements that your body was designed to do. CrossFit is the most effective way to build strength, burn fat, and increase cardio capacity.
Check out what our members have to say about getting bulky!
Every workout is designed to be challenging while also being scalable to your own personal ability. As an official Level Method gym, we offer at least six workout options that range from beginner to expert difficulty.
A: We do not offer discounts in the traditional sense. We actually think of the group membership as a discount from the private coaching rates so that you pay around $6-10/class and still get coached!
No – everyone here is on a month-to-month membership. For you, it means no long-term commitments and having the freedom to stop whenever you would like without fear of penalty. For us, it means we can’t take you for granted as if you were on a long-term contract. We want to work hard and prove to you each month that you are receiving the full value (and more!) of your membership.
A: Our group classes have set times throughout the day and our personal training sessions may be scheduled at your convenience with your personal coach.
Each session is a fun and challenging experience. Classes start with a dynamic warm-up to get you loosened up and ready to train. After the warm up you will be taken through skill training and instruction on movement standards to improve your technique and ensure that you can safely perform the movements for the WOD (Workout Of the Day). Once you are ready with your scaling options and you have run through the movements, the entire class will tackle the WOD together. At the end it’s high fives and fist bumps all around before we hit a cool down and stretch together.
We always have a warm up session before the WOD (Workout of the Day). If you find yourself with a little extra time before or after class, feel free to start warming up on your own, practice skills, or just socialize. All we ask is that you come in ready to do some work!
No. Maximum benefits are derived from intensity and recovery. We offer a complete health and fitness program, and so we recommend that you take time to recover so that you perform your best at every session. This will prevent injury and backsliding from overtraining. On the other hand it is important that your training is consistent. Generally, we recommend our members train 3 days on and 1 day off. Due to work and life, others may do MWF or even 5 weekdays and then weekends off. Coaches will talk to you about what the best schedule might be.
We don’t recommend coming to two of the same class and doing the same workout. We want you to give 100% effort and intensity to one class because we know that the effects of that effort will pay off better than doing the same workout twice. We don’t believe more is better; we believe better is better. With that said, if there are different opportunities offered such as mobility, Open gym, or specialty seminars, we will recommend the proper path to your goals. (For most people, you can never have too much mobility!)
Our workouts are about variance and adaptation. We program our workouts for General Physical Preparedness (GPP). While one day may have more of an emphasis on legs while another day focuses on pushing movements, we believe the body is a whole system and that the best form of training is that which strengthens the body as a whole unit. We do this by performing functional movements that the body was designed to do naturally.
When you come and train at Kanna you won’t find many machines to train on. Instead, you will find free weights, pull-up bars, boxes to jump on, jump ropes, and other functional equipment. When you come to class you will train with people who know your name, motivate you, and help you get through those tough workouts.
At Kanna, you will be trained to be ready for any fitness challenge. We want you to be able to lift heavy things, but also run fast. We want you to pick up your grandkids and play with them. We want your doctor to be astounded with your impeccable blood work and ask how you got in shape. We want you to be the best version of yourself!
While we love our furry friends, bringing pets to the box can be a liability even if you know they’re a good boy/girl. Since we don’t know other people’s past experiences with animals, allergies, etc. please keep your pets at home, but feel free to post pictures on social media! (bet you already do that though)
