Yesterday, I wrote about money and food and how you should cut out the things that don’t bring you joy and focus your resources on the things that do. I posted it to my Facebook page and one of our Kanna members wrote the following:


“I’m going to go find [Ramit Sethi] and listen…but would think that the ‘spend’ can also refer to energy. Spend (or put your energy) on the things you love…Cut out the negative energy.”


And another replied:


“agree, said ‘no’ to some stuff this year that I would’ve automatically said yes to and ‘yes’ to some things I never would have tried. Better for both.”


Folks, this goes for money and food, but also projects, “to do’s,” and people. 


There’s a saying that you’re the average of the five people you hang out with. The idea is that we are social creatures and tend to behave like the people around us. If you are around people that gossip, then you’re more likely to gossip. If you’re around people that work hard, you’re more likely to work hard. Yes, there’s subtle peer pressure even into adulthood.


I want you to stop and think about what kind of person you are, what kind of person you want to be, and then look at the people you associate with. Are they helping you or hurting you become that person? Are they filling your emotional bucket or draining it? What’s the net effect of this person in your life?


This can be digitally as well. Who are your FB friends and who do you follow on Instagram? I want you to do an audit of your “friends” and followees use the most magical button on social media: UNFOLLOW


Unfollow the people that complain. Unfollow the people that post some cryptic message just to get you to ask what’s going on. Unfollow the people that say they hate drama, yet somehow there’s always drama in their life. Why spend your energy on consuming negativity?


Our coaching staff has three goals when leading a class: Educate, Entertain, and Inspire. If people you follow on social media don’t do those things, you know what to do: unfollow!
