Kanna Fitness would like to recognize Joe Cannon as our September Member of the Month! As a member since 2018, he’s been a die-hard 5:30a member. He’s always open to being coached and puts in the work even with a busy schedule and two young kids. We want to recognize this long-term consistency by having Joe as our September Member of the Month – Congratulations! Read on for more info about Joe:

Name
Joe Cannon

Occupation
Scientist

When did you start at Kanna?
Fall 2018

What are your favorite numbers and why?
17 was my soccer number in college.

What movements do you like?
Pull ups, hanging power cleans and double unders.

What movements do you dislike?
Turkish get ups are an absolute no go and most exercises that incorporate an overhead press.

What sports or fitness things did you do before Kanna?
I’ve played soccer pretty competitively my whole life and still do. Other than that, I recreationally played basketball and lacrosse as a kid.

How did you find Kanna? What was your first workout?
I relocated here from Boston and as luck would have it Kanna was right down the street! My first workout was a partner workout with lots of rowing. Stew was my partner, which was a pretty crazy way to start on hindsight!

What’s your “why” for working out?
I got sick of getting new and bigger pants every year. Finally decided to get back in shape.

What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?
I have literally never left after a workout and felt like it wasn’t worth coming that day. The constant attention to detail and variability in programming makes it enjoyable and provides a lot of flexibility for achieving whatever goals you might have.

What are your hobbies?
I’m an avid Arsenal fan and aquarium enthusiast.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I have a twin brother.

What PRs or accomplishments (fitness-related) are you most proud of?
Pull ups and now weighted pull ups. First it required me to drop some pounds and then it required me to build up the necessary lat and back strength. Tons of work to get to this point and there’s still plenty of room to improve.

What’s on your fitness bucket list?
Muscle up of some sort.

What’s on your general bucket list?
An arsenal game at the Emirates in London.

What advice do you have for people new to Kanna?
Make it a routine and adjust as needed! You’ll start to miss it after you skip a few days!Anything else you’d like to mention?
Great coaches!

***Kanna members: The MOTM custom workout is TBD***

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna ideals of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
