We’d like to introduce Karl Colasante as our November Member of the Month! It’s fitting as it’s also going to be his two-year anniversary with us this month. For as sharp and quick-witted as he is, Karl is also generous guy who will spend Friday nights cooking with his church to give to those less fortunate. He’s also equally giving of his time by just sitting and having a great conversation with you after a workout. Now don’t get us wrong – while Karl is a great guy, he also bribed us to make him Member of the Month 🙂 So without further ado, go ahead and read more about this superhero among us.
Name
Karl Colasante
Occupation
Management Consultant with PwC
When did you start CF?
Day before Thanksgiving 2017
What are your favorite numbers and why?
1, 1 dozen, 100, 1000 (per text w Chris)
What CF movements do you like?
1 mile run; 1 dozen something?; 100 pull-ups (in pairs); 1000 singles (in pairs)
What CF movements do you dislike?
I embrace all CF movements but not all movements embrace me.
What sports or fitness things did you do before CF?
Golf. Ice Hockey.
How did you find CF? What was your first workout?
I found Kanna because I was looking for a new place to workout – something that would be engaging, motivating and exciting – and saw that it was only a few blocks from my church in Ambler. I stopped in, talked to Chris and the rest is history. My first workout was 630am the day before Thanksgiving – I don’t remember the WOD.
What’s your favorite thing about CF?
That people get excited about me taking my shirt off. Either that or the shower facilities. A close third is the community…
What are your hobbies?
Golf – I’m a big golf fanatic and love to play. My favorite place to play is Kiawah Island, outside Charleston and my favorite course is the Ocean course. Cooking – I learned from my grandmother growing up and love to cook. My favorite special occasion meal is scratch pasta and homemade rustic bread (not exactly paleo-friendly). DIY Projects – in the nearly 12 years I’ve owned my house, I’ve completely torn apart and rebuilt every room. My latest and biggest project was taking my kitchen down to the studs and expanding it. And the best past was the first meal I made in it when it was finished to celebrate with friends – scratch pasta, of course.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
My grandmother raised me and, at 93, is still the most amazing person I know. I lost both my parents when I was really young, but am very thankful to have had a great family and support system around me – including a loving grandmother who took me in.
What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?
Nearly beating Lam in the baseline WOD in the spring. A rematch is bound to happen…
What’s on your CF bucket list?
Completing a solo Murph w/ vest, HSPUs and handstand walks.
What’s on your general bucket list?
Retire by 50. Get to the two remaining continents I haven’t visited (Antarctica, Australia).
What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) CrossFitters?
Give it a shot – you will be amazed at how welcoming and supportive the community is – and amazed at how quickly it improves your fitness and other aspects of life.
Anything else you’d like to mention?
Thanks for the opp to be MoM! All my harassment paid off!!
***Kanna members: Karl’s custom workout date TBD***
How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the values of CrossFit Kanna: Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
