3 Ways To Take Your Fitness Outside This Summer (and where to do it)

We all know that fitness is important, and staying active is a big part of taking care of ourselves. But fitness doesn’t have to be just about what happens in the gym. If you’re looking for an adventure, a new way to get active and stay fit, we have made a list of 3 ways to take your fitness outside this summer!

Kayaking is a fun way to utilize your fitness. It can take you to new places and meet new people you never thought about before. This activity is a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. There are many beautiful places all around where you can explore, whether it’s your local lake or river or even at a specialty park with them. You’ll also have a chance at meeting like-minded individuals who love what they’re doing just as much as you do!

Two great local places to rent kayaks are Lake Knockamixon and Fitzwater Station in Phoenixville!

Cycling is a great way to find new routes and trails around Ambler or any town. Mountain biking specifically is also a great way to get out into nature and explore the world around you. It’s not just about riding through the woods or mountains, but about finding trails that lead you on winding paths through nature as well as seeing different kinds of wildlife and plants along the way. So, if you’re looking for something new to do this summer, try mountain biking!

Interested in mountain biking? Head down to Forbidden Drive and get your feet wet there. If you’re more experienced check out White Clay Creek in Delaware! For road biking, head over to the Schuylkill River Trail.

If you’re looking for a way to challenge yourself, to get outside and experience nature, to meet new people, or simply feel a little bit more adventurous than you do indoors, then give hiking and camping a try. Hiking allows you to explore places that are off-the-beaten-path. You can see things that other people don’t see, and get a glimpse of the earth in a way that only you will ever know about. When it’s time for your city friends to come visit, you can show them your secret spots—the places where you went on your journey through nature. Camping is another fun way to bond with people who share your love of the outdoors—it’s like when you were a kid and had sleepover parties with your best friends. The best part about camping? You get to sleep next to nature! You can fall asleep listening to the sounds of the wildlife around you, instead of the noises of cars driving by outside your window at night.

You can do some great hiking locally along the Wissahickon Trail but if you want to make a day trip, or plan a weekend maybe, head out to Hawk Mountain or Ricketts Glen State Park.

Thankfully, there are so many ways to get outside and try new sports and activities. And who knows? Maybe you’ll find a new sport or activity that you truly love. That’s what makes trying new things worth your time—you may very well discover a new passion along the way. It may be challenging in the beginning, but that’s what makes it all worthwhile in the end!
