Five Ways to Motivate Yourself

Sometimes, it’s hard to get yourself to the gym. After a long day at work or when the alarm goes off early in the morning, it sounds better to just go home or stay in bed. But that would be the easy way out. And CrossFitters tend to not like to do things the easy way. So here’s a list of 5 ways that I motivate myself to get to the gym when I’m not feeling motivated.

1. Put on your favorite gym music.

There’s something about hearing your favorite workout music that gets you excited to go to the gym. Keep a playlist ready that you can put on to get you feeling motivated.

2. Get a gym buddy to go with you to class.

Having a buddy to workout with makes exercising and being active much more enjoyable. The shared suffering that ensues is a great way to bond with a friend.

3. Set a goal and stick to it.

Goals are one of the best ways to get you moving. Write down whatever your goal is and hang it in a place where you will see it every day. The more you see it, the more you will be motivated to work towards it and achieve it. Tell everyone what your goal is. Support is a huge key to success and to keeping you committed to achieving your goal.

4. Reward yourself.

There’s no greater feeling then staying committed to something and achieving whatever you set out to do. A great way to motivate yourself to exercise is to give yourself a reward when you accomplish something you set out to do. Maybe you want a new purse or pair of shoes but just don’t want to spend the money for no reason. Give yourself a reason! Set a goal to exercise more, and when you achieve it, treat yourself to that reward! Keep your eye on the prize and you’ll stay motivated with ease.

5. Track your progress.

Take pictures or measurements or find a way to track your progress other than just a number on the scale. Whether it’s being able to work out for longer than last week or wearing a smaller pant size, tracking your progress is great motivation and a way to inspire yourself to stick with it!
