September Member of the Month: Amanda M.

Name

Amanda Morelli

Occupation

high school student, small business owner

When did you start CF?

January 2018

What are your favorite numbers and why?

8-it’s been my soccer and softball number for years; 12-it’s my birthday

What movements do you like?

power cleans, pistol squats, deadlifts, running, box jumps

What movements do you dislike?

wall balls, bike, power snatches, thrusters, push press

What sports or fitness things did you do before Kanna?

soccer, softball, cheerleading

How did you find Kanna? What was your first workout?

I found out that my favorite WWE wrestlers used CrossFit as a way of training, so I googled gyms near me. Kanna wasn’t even the closest, something about it just clicked. I have no idea what my first workout was.

What’s your favorite thing about Kanna?

It’s not even a gym, it’s more like Kannatown. I feel so welcomed and appreciated. It’s the one thing that can pull me out of any funky mood, and it allows my body to show off what it can do.

What are your hobbies?

I found a love for embroidering during quarantine, and decided to take my passion for baking to the next level. I now own a small business called The Lonely Whisk!

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I’m a big fan of literature/poetry, especially Emily Dickinson.

What PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of?

Coming back. I was forced to stop twice, and I refuse to let it happen again.

What’s on your fitness bucket list?

I want to get my strict pull up and maybe even muscle up! Also, to participate in the Open…and go to the Games (that’s a long shot).

What’s on your general bucket list?

Travel to London (and go to a Manchester United game), meet some of my favorite CrossFit athletes, change people’s lives…not sure how I’m going to do that yet.

What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) CrossFitters?

For all my ladies: you’re not going to look like a man. So stop fearing weights. It’s not intimidating like some people make it! With the right coaching, environment, and self awareness, you can properly push yourself to be a happier, fitter person.

Anything else you’d like to mention?

Kanna is like my sanctuary. The people are like my moms and dads, and I am so blessed to be associated with Kanna. It is something I am so passionate about, and never lost love for. Thank you, to all my coaches and peers, for putting a smile on my face and more weight on my barbell.

***Kanna members: Amanda’s custom workout will be TBD (obviously)***

How does one become Member of the Month? By embodying the Kanna values of Learning, Working Hard, and Having Fun. By contributing to the community and supporting others in and out of the workout. By being open to coaching and improving oneself for the sake of being better, not to “win” the workout. By just generally being a good person and having a positive attitude. And a lot more, but you get the idea!
